"The ability to write icons is a huge gift. I got the chance to find this Gift only a few years ago. In the first class I was to draw the heads of the Apostles from the icon of the Dormition of the Mother of God. My work was received very kindly, that I immediately felt part of the group. And then it's only get better. I like that we start with prayer. A candle is burning. Most of the time there is silence, and conversations are mainly about the work being created. Each of us is appreciated by the host, she will always find in our works a detail that is really good and will praise it. We receive a lot of encouragement, all comments are given very gently. Gosia provides us with the necessary theoretical knowledge, often illustrating it with slides or illustrations from albums. Before working on your own, we sketch a lot and learn to look to see what is most important in the icon.
Gosia gives us tips and advises. At the same time, he emphasizes that it is our work that is to express us, of course, while respecting the basic canon of writing a medieval icon.
Meetings over the icon are also silencing therapy and workshops of friendly cooperation. I miss them very much now. "(Jagoda)
"I know Małgosia from a time when she was not yet involved in icons. I liked it then that she was looking for her way persistently and consistently. In the past, Icons did not move or delight me. I became interested in them by accident, because of people close to me. I still don't feel like an expert, I am aware of my own limitations when creating them. Despite this, I feel a lot of joy, peace, goodness and love, participating in the effect of my efforts, a more or less successful icon. Creating a perfect icon become less important than participating in the creating process and being with people who are close to me. We also learn patience, openness to unplanned effects, trust in our perception of phenomena, colors, shapes, our individual reflexes and tastes.” (Kasia)
Under Małgosia's supervision, I wrote three icons. In an atmosphere of silence, peace and gentleness, Gosia led us through all stages of creating the icon. At her workshops Małgosia shares her vastly knowledge, makes sure that the original is reproduced correctly, and at the same time, she consistently mobilizes us to create the resulting work as much as possible from our interior, from our sense and not just her suggestions. As a result, refined, original icons are created. This workshop is a time of calmness and communing with beauty. "(Monika)
